Martin “Marty” Janowitz is Vice President, Sustainable Development at Stantec, a Canadian-based design, engineering, architecture and environmental planning firm with more than 25,000 professionals based in 600+ offices across North America and internationally. He has more than 30 years’ experience consulting nationally and internationally in environmental and sustainability planning, policy, community and resource management, design and infrastructure. He guided Stantec’s efforts to become an exemplary model of sustainability in all its operations and to develop an integrated sustainability consulting practice.
Marty has played a prominent role in the sphere of integrated sustainable infrastructure serving on the Advisory Board of the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at Harvard University. An Envision Sustainability Professional, Verifier and Trainer, he is also a member of the Envision Review Board including during the development of Envision v3. He served as senior advisor on the first three Canadian projects submitted for Envision verification (all Platinum). Marty has trained and presented widely on Envision, and the business case for sustainable infrastructure. A prime sustainability advisor and consultant for municipal, regional and federal governments and tier one corporations Marty was selected to be a member of Canada’s Clean 50 – outstanding contributors to sustainable development and clean capitalism.
Marty holds a Masters’ Degree in Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University and a B.A. in Sociology from Brandeis University.
