Martin “Marty” Janowitz is Vice President, Sustainable Development at Stantec, a Canadian-based design, engineering, architecture and environmental planning firm with more than 15,000 professionals based in 290 offices across North America and internationally. He has more than 30 years’ experience consulting nationally and internationally in environmental and sustainability planning, policy and stakeholder engagement focused on community and resource management, design and infrastructure. He is responsible for guiding Stantec’s efforts to become an exemplary model of sustainability in all its operations and also leads the company’s initiatives to develop an integrated sustainability consulting practice. Over the past six years he has played a prominent role in the sphere of integrated sustainable infrastructure. In that context he serves on the Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory Board of the Zofnass Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, was Chair of ISI’s Resource Management Credits Technical Sub-Committee and is an Envision™ Sustainability Professional, Verifier and Trainer. He served as senior advisor on the first two Canadian projects submitted for Envision verification. Marty has presented on Envision at a number of international conferences, worked as a prime sustainability consultant for many municipalities and for some of North America’s tier one corporations and was selected to be a member of Canada’s Clean 50 – outstanding contributors to sustainable development and clean capitalism.
Marty holds a Masters’ Degree in Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University and a B.A. in Sociology from Brandeis University.
